PFT - The Eagles tried to quiet down all the negativity in Philadelphia on Tuesday by deflecting the defensive consultant issue. The team said they weren’t hiring a defensive consultant. That doesn’t mean they didn’t try to. ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reported Wednesday morning that Eric Mangini was the team’s first choice for the gig, but he turned down the offer. Mangini is now working at ESPN.
Just as we rip PFT, they come out with this little gem. Mangini, who was decent as the Patriots devensive coordinator before he went and embarrassed himself as a head coach with the Jets and Browns and became affectionately known as ‘Mangina’, was offered to come in as a ‘defensive consultant’ to the Eagles.
Which spurs 2 important thoughts: 1) Juan Castillo is done as the DC. and 2) This team reeks of desperation if the idiotic and smug as Andy Reid’s balls Mangini is the first choice to come in.
Mangina also is known for running the 3-4 system. Not really sure how that would help coming in mid-season to give this team some support this 4-3/wide-9/no sac of a mess. Maybe he can come in and teach this team how to tackle.
I know it’s been almost 2 years now, but I’m almost certain if we get Jim Johnson’s corpse it would still be a better defensive coach than the assfaces the Eagles currently have staffed.
UPDATE: Jeff McLane of the Philly Inquirer reported via Tweet that Andy Reid has not been in contact with anyone for the defensive consultant position. So somebody is fibbing….either Sal Pal, Reid, or McLane.
